“Why are books the best gift to give?”

You Are Giving Someone the World

Giving someone a good book is like giving them a free vacation—mentally, of course. They get to see a whole new, wide world without the confinement of an airplane seat. I think Neil Gaiman was right when he said: “Books make great gifts because they have whole worlds inside of them. And it’s much cheaper to buy somebody a book than it is to buy them the whole world!”

Books Are a Deeply Personal Gift

A book isn’t just a gift; it’s also a postcard. (I told you books were cheap!) The only time it’s acceptable to write in a book is when you add an inscription, turning it into a deeply personal gift from you. It also makes it much harder for the recipient to sell the book, if that’s something you’re worried about.

Books Are the Best Medicine for the Soul

Science has shown that reading makes people more empathetic, and that frequent readers also live longer. So when you give someone a book, you’re basically being a doctor! While that might not be entirely true, it’s clear that readers seem to be kinder and more vibrant people, so giving books makes the world a better place.

There Is a Right Book for Everyone

Anyone who says they “don’t like books” just hasn’t found the right book for them yet! Books come in so many genres, styles, and… even font sizes. Whether you’re buying for a mysterious lover, a romantic, or a college-aged brother who has read David Foster Wallace’s entire body of work, rest assured, you can still find the perfect book for them.
